VSTE Super Hero Summit will be held June 21, 2017, at the Corron Community Development Center on the Middletown Campus of Lord Fairfax Community College. Check this link for directions.

This session will give you ideas for using Chromebooks with your littlest superheroes. Through classroom teacher & ITRT collaboration, we will share ideas for how to manage and incorporate Chromebooks with a focus on student-centered learning and instructionally based practices. Participants will leave the session with lesson ideas for their classroom. Topics featured include: Seesaw, QR codes, Prodigy, G Suite for Education Apps, WeVideo, WriteReader, & Coding. Participants will gain ideas to help their students communicate ideas clearly and effectively by using a variety of digital tools in the primary classroom.

Design Fun: Nanobug Mazes Plus Badging for Learning
This activity engages learners in an iterative engineering design process and is ripe for highlighting the engineering habit of mind of optimism. It can be used to teach basic geometry and measurement concepts as well. Attendees will work with a team to create a maze for their Nanobug. As part of this session, participants will learn more about badging by earning a badge and discovering additional ways they can earn badges.

Tinkering With Tinkercad
With the addition of 3D printers to schools, it's not always easy to come up with objects to print. Using the online software Tinkercad, students and teachers can begin to design their own virtual models, or edit ones found online, to then print or use in other applications.

In this session, we’ll start by diving into their newest tool, the browser version of Google Earth, and explore the rich content you can use on any computer, including Chromebooks, Android devices, and soon, iPads and iPhones. Sit down with Apple engineers in a hands-on workshop and learn, first-hand, how to teach your students coding with iPads and how to write apps with Macs for the largest digital ecosystem on the planet. Follow the path to your goal with Symbaloo Lesson Plans
Symbaloo has been around for several years now as an online bookmarking tool. What most people don't realize is that the creators have recently added a lesson planning tool. This tool is a great way to use your online resources to develop WebQuest style lessons for your students to complete. Students complete paths created by you, as the teacher, to reach their completion goal. These paths can contain varying degrees of difficulty as set by the creator.

Photography for SuperEmpowering Student Learning
The best graphics for helping students enhance their learning come from the camera you and most of them carry everywhere: a smartphone. We’ll start with some basic techniques for making great photographs and discuss a variety of ideas for using photography everyday in your classroom. Then we'll look at easy ways to edit, manage, and share your images using Google Photos and other tools. Finally, if time allows, we’ll play with easy ways to create 360° VR images that can be used in Google Cardboard (think DIY Google Street View) on that same smartphone. Be sure to bring your Apple or Android phone so you can play along.
